The BLACKCAPS won the T20 series 2-1 to finish their tour of Sri Lanka.

BLACKCAPS claim series despite Malinga magic

Video Highlights

Lasith Malinga claimed a double hat-trick to help Sri Lanka claim the third T20 by 37 runs in front of a feverish crowd in Pallekele.

Chasing a moderate 125-8 on a challenging pitch, Malinga decimated the BLACKCAPS top order with four consecutive swinging yorkers which accounted for Munro, Rutherford, De Grandhomme and Taylor.

It was a long way back from 15-4 and when Malinga claimed his fifth wicket inside five overs, the game was getting away from the visitors, much to the delight of the home supporters.

After earlier starring with the ball, it was Mitchell Santner (3-12) and Tim Southee who tried to right the ship, with Southee striking a personal best 28 not-out as the innings finished on 88 in 16 overs.

Scorecard

Southee was once again hard to get away as he conceded just 13 runs from his four overs, while Todd Astle took his first chance and claimed 3-28.

Southee would be named Player of the Series, while Colin de Grandhomme won a motorbike as the Power Player of the Series for his knocks in the opening two games.
