Sparks take first leg of Southern derby

ROUND THREE

OTAGO SPARKS v CANTERBURY
Brooklands Park, Mosgiel
1 December 2018

Result: Otago Sparks won by 43 runs

Scorecard

The Otago Sparks took a good win with 14 overs to spare from the opening one-day match of a southern derby, the Saturday round played at Brooklands Park after flooding had seen the match transferred from Oamaru earlier in the week.

English import Alice Davidson-Richards (below) continued to have a strong impact, top-scoring with 50 to underpin the host's 172 for nine after having been sent in.

Captain Katey Martin contributed a valuable 36 in their third wicket stand and Millie Cowan made a quick 27 from 31 deliveries at six, but WHITE FERNS allrounder Kate Ebrahim shone with the ball for the Mags with her 3-30.

The Mags should have chased that down easily enough, but no one was able to stick around. Ella Brown was the best of the Sparks' bowlers with three for 18, Leigh Kasperek and Emma Black each claiming a brace as the Mags were dismissed for just 129 in reply, Ebrahim top-scoring with a mere 18.
