Magicians chase down 248

The Canterbury Magicians chased down 248 to beat the Central Hinds in the One day match at Redwood Park, Christchurch.

Canterbury won the toss and decided to bowl first and were on the back foot early, not taking a wicket until the 13th over.

Things evened up with the dismissal of Esther Lanser for 19 and then Kate Broadmore for a duck.

The Hinds steadied with a strong third wicket stand of 71 by Sara McGlashan and Rachel Priest before McGlashan was dismissed for 42.

Priest carried on with good support from her team-mates to reach 103 before being dismissed in the 45th over.  Priest ton was good enough to see her vault into seventh spot on the overall MVP table.

For the Magicians, the wickets were shared evenly, with Amy Rendel, Anderson and Amy Satterthwaite taking two apiece.

Canterbury replied strongly to their target of 249, taking charge right from the get go. Opener Mandy Godliman was in excellent form, developing three big partnerships to see the team close to victory before she was dismissed for 78.

Her 80 run partnership with Maria Fahey broke the back of the Hinds’opposition. Fahey ended with a sparkling unbeaten 69 off just 66 balls.

Canterbury completed the seven wicket victory with more than two overs to spare.
