NZ XI impressive in warm-up victory

The New Zealand women’s XI have put in a dominant display to claim a 108-run victory in the second warm-up match against England.  

*Note: Report is written on the first 10 wickets for each side. As per normal warm-up fixtures, England batted on to complete 49.3 overs, hence the scorecard discrepancy.

SCORECARD

The home side were superior with bat and ball, posting 316/5 batting first before bowling England out for 209 in the 39th over.

Strong contributions featured throughout the batting display with opener Nat Dodd anchoring the innings with a silky 91.

Dodd played with poised, finding the boundary eight times while showing urgency between the wickets throughout her innings.

Opening partner, Hayley Jensen, exhibited her power and strength with a quick-fire 47 off 52 balls.

The innings shifted gears with the introduction of new WHITE FERN Brooke Halliday.

The Northern Spirit captain smashed three sixes and eight fours in a superb 79 off 56 balls - one six ending up on the roof of the Queenstown Events Centre.

Halliday was brutal on the short ball while also dispatching two sixes over wide long-on in an innings of serious class.

Halliday’s fast runs coupled with cameos from Down (30), Martin (31*) and Perkins (23) ensured the score cruised past 300.

The bowlers didn’t disappoint when it was their turn, despite a fast start from the English openers.

Tammy Beaumont and Danni Wyatt put on 64 runs in eight overs before Central’s Claudia Green took over.

Green starred with 5-48, her prodigious in-swing accounting for three of the top four England batters.

She bowled with great control, returning to take the 10th wicket before the England side gave a couple of their batters a second innings, as is the norm in warm-up fixtures.

Nensi Patel chipped in with 2-24, while Jensen, Hannah Rowe and Fran Jonas all took one wicket each.

The WHITE FERNS take on England in the first of three ODIs starting on February 23 at Hagley Oval. 

*England finished their batting innings 286/12 after 49.3 overs.
