After a rest day in Lincoln the heat went on to secure points on the table
Canterbury claims southern derby
Leaders Canterbury continued their unbeaten run with another strong win as the one-day battles resumed.
Otago was on the receiving end this time, invited to field first on Lincoln No.3 by Canterbury captain Missy Banks who top-scored with just 35 in the Canterbury effort.
Whilst that might suggest a fair effort with the ball from the southerners, their chief obstacle was themselves after conceding 58 extras in 48 overs: 12 byes, one leg bye, 39 wides and six no balls.
Canterbury's attack then chipped away to have Otago five-down by the halfway mark, including opener Olivia Gain who had just fallen on 39.
It would prove Otago's top score as the lower order fell away, all out for 145 to hand Canterbury a 94-run victory with a few overs to spare. Tatiana Gibbs was the pick of the bowlers with a superb haul of four for 18 off 8.2 overs, including two maidens.
Central Districts makes it two on the bounce
CD U19 continued to make headway with a well controlled win over their Wellington counterparts.
After CD captain Monique Rees had won the toss and sent Wellington in on Bert Sutcliffe Oval, the Central women made a great start with Saffron Wilson bowling Jamie Mason-Jones in the first over of the day.
A runout soon had both openers back in the hutch, leaving Wellington with an early recovery job on their hands. First drop Georgia Plimmer began to find the fence and had made a good start on 23 after almost an hour in the middle before Rees when on a wicket spree through the middle order, picking up wickets in the 15th, 17th and 19th overs.
Wellington captain Beth Molony now had a big job in front of her and she managed to hold on, and settle in for a top score of 39.
She struggled for support, however, the wickets continuing to fall until Wellington was all out for 141 in just the 34th over, Rees walking off the park with 3-17 off her six and Ocean Bartlett picking up a cheap brace.
Xara Jetly got a big early wicket in reply with Margot Scoular stumped early, and Moloney rejoiced in removing dangerous Ashtuti Kumar on just 10. Opener Gemma Sims was still there, however, at 31 for two and would carry her bat through to the winning runs in the 39th over for a patient unbeaten 47*.
Wilson meanwhile provided the balance of a matchwinning unbroken 111-run stand for the third wicket with a top score of 63* in a comfortable eight-wicket victory that helped CD stay in second spot on the table.
Gemma Adams stars with century for Auckland
Northern Districts Under 19 sent Auckland into bat on Lincoln Green, but found themselves struggling to break through after the Auckland top order got off to a flier.
Anna Browning (29) and Gemma Adams put on exactly 100 for the first wicket before Makayla Templeton collected a caught and bowled in the 16th over, but Adams carried on attacking with the bat to reach a century off 97 balls, including 15 boundaries.
When Emma Baker finally removed her for 116 in the 41st over, it triggered a late collapse that netted Baker a quick five-wicket bag at the death, 5-60 off her 10.
Adams had earlier found plenty of support in number four Samantha Petherick, however. Petherick contributed 80 to the Auckland tally of 284 for eight that would prove insurmountable for ND.
After Aimee Hucker claimed both ND openers, eight for two became 13 for three to have the Aucklanders on top early.
First drop Holly Topp (42) batted for almost 28 overs, however, to provide anchoring support for ND number five Templeton who reached a century off 136 balls, including 16 boundaries.
Templeton was eventually caught off the very last ball of the innings on 107, by which time ND were doomed to bat out 50 runs short, a 49-run win to Auckland.
