Rain rules in Invercargill

The Otago Volts and Central Stags were left to rue the poor weather which forced their Ford Trophy one-day match to be abandoned at Invercargill today.

It was the third abandonment for both teams in this summer’s competition.

The match at Queen’s Park did actually get under way after the Volts won the toss and invited the Stags to bat first.

It was a decision the home side would have been happy with as the Stags struggled to 34 for three from eight over before the rain arrived, and several hours later officials made the call to abandon the contest.

Mathew Sinclair was the only batsman to get a start for the Stags as he reached 17 not out off eight balls, while left-arm fast bowler Neil Wagner had time to snap up two for 18 off four overs and his opening partner Ian Butler took one for 12.
