ND were big improvers

SCORES

Kuwyn Price was left stranded on 98*, but it was a small price to pay for a good win over Wellington that swept ND from fifth up to third on the table.

Earlier, Wellington had opted to bat first on Bert Sutcliffe Oval and was looking good with a breezy fifty-stand for the first wicket.

But the breakthrough in the 10th over tempered their good start.

The caught and bowled that removed opener Alex Thompson would be Liam Collett's only wicket at the bowling crease, but he would go on to have a big impact on the Wellington innings - nailing two key runouts as Wellington found themselves still looking for traction at 164 for five, having just lost a valuable wicket.

Opener Peter Bonar had gone on to top-score with 51 before departing in the 22nd over, captain Sam French (39 off 54) and Oscar Jackson (31 off 45) putting together a crucial 60-run stand for the fifth wicket before Collett ran out the latter in the 39th.

Wellington struggled through to 219 before they were all out in the penultimate over, but made a great start with the ball in an effort to defend that total.

Lachie Bailey (2-32) struck twice inside the first five overs while a runout of captain Jacob Parker had ND in further strife at 35 for three in the seventh.

Kuwyn Price would hold the fort and then some, however, continuing throughout the remainder of the chase.

He shared a match-defining 174-run stand with Alex Wilton (run out on 74) before hitting the winning boundary in the 45th over - having needed a six to reach three figures after a winning day's work.
