Both sides were seeking a sorely-needed win

Wellington U19 beat Northern Districts U19 by 7 wickets

Score

With neither Wellington nor ND having picked up a win at this year's nationals, someone was finally going to get some chocolates when the two sides met in Sunday's penultimate round.

Wellington captain Jesse Tashkoff elected to have a bowl and, despite a promising 83-run stand for the first wicket between Ollie White and Luke Trigg, it proved a good decision as Wellington went on to rip out the middle order cheaply.

White (56 off 43) and anchorman Trigg (60 off 93) both reached half centuries, with Trigg soldiering on into the 38th over in his patient knock before Micah Conroy finally had him with a return catch.

In the meantime, Wellington had dismantled six other wickets to have ND 152/5 in the 30th over, the run rate having slowed as the pressure went on.

Conroy already had two useful wickets by then and finished with 3-37, while busy Baahul Ghandi picked up both White and first drop Fergus Lellman (25) before taking a catch off Conroy and running out Hayden Dickson as he was just getting underway to have ND 154 for six.

All out for 244 in exactly 50 overs, ND still had a chance and had Wellington two down inside the first 14 overs. The Wellington openers had got their side off to a flier, however, and the arrival of Tim Robinson in the seventh over would prove the difference as the first drop settled in for an unbeaten century.

Robinson reached his three figures in the nick of time, hitting one last boundary to both bring up the three figures and seal the win in the 45th over. His 101* was scored at run-a-ball with key support from Conroy (27) and Tashkoff (46* off 54) in a match-winning unbroken 128*-run stand for the fourth wicket.
