The White Ferns beat The West Indies by 56 runs at The Bankstown Oval to sit on top of Group A, the only side in that group with two wins and by virtue of their two wins have qualified for the Super Six competition.

Winning the toss, The White Ferns batted first reached 192 for eight from their fifty overs.

Stand in captain Aimee Mason struck 38 from 53 deliveries but the fireworks today came from all-rounder Sarah Tsukigawa who top scoring with 41 not out off 35 balls, five boundaries and a six in her innings.

Amy Satterthwaite was also effective scoring 37 from 63 deliveries.

Set 193 to win, the West Indies were curbed by excellent line and length deliveries from all the Kiwi bowlers and could only manage 136/8 from their fifty overs.

Again it was Sarah Tsukigawa who shone with her right arm medium pacers and while wicketless conceded only 14 runs off 8 overs earning her the Player of the Match award.

Spinners Aimee Mason and Lucy Doolan both were economical as well both finishing their ten over spells with three wickets a peice.

White Ferns coach Gary Stead said his side definitely got a real test today, particularly from the disciplined approach The West Indies bowlers took into the match.

He said their accuracy and patience forced The White Fern top order into making errors and it was only some exuberant lower order batting from Aimee Mason, Sarah Tsukigawa and Rachel Priest that gave The White Ferns a respectable total.

Gary Stead said it was game on for about 20 overs when The West Indies openers went about their task chasing the 193 but he was really pleased with his bowlers, the spinning duo of Mason and Doolan taking 6 wickets for 45 runs in their twenty overs the pick of the attack along with Tsukigawa.

Gary Stead said there is still plenty for The White Ferns to work on, but a win is a win and he's happy they are through to the Super Six.

The White Ferns travel to Bowral tomorrow [Wednesday] and play South Africa at Bradman Oval, Thursday March 12th.
