Wizards and Volts share points after rain stops play

The Canterbury Wizards have made another small step towards a finals berth after gaining two points from the abandoned match against the Otago Volts at University Oval in Dunedin.

A determined effort from everyone involved saw the match last 12 overs but the weather had the final say with play called off shortly before 8.00pm.

Before the conditions were deemed to poor to continue the Wizards won the toss and opted to bowl with the Volts hitting their way to 78 for four.

Captain Brendon McCullum made a brisk 33 off 25 while Aaron Redmond was more measured with 22 off 29.

Of the Canterbury attack spinner Rob Nicol returned two for 21 with Matt Henry and Yasir Arafat picking up one wicket each.

The abandoned match sees Canterbury move through to 20 points, six clear of third placed Northern Knights while the Otago Volts move above the Central Stags into fourth spot.
