Aussies clean up Bangladesh

Australia has beaten Bangladesh comfortably in the second Test in Chittagong by an innings and 80 runs, to complete a 2-0 series sweep.

Spinners Stuart MacGill and Shane Warne wrapped up Bangladesh's remaining six wickets, claiming 4-35 and 2-50 respectively in the morning session after the hosts had resumed at 4-195.

Warne finished with 5-113 after his three wickets towards stumps on the fourth day had the hosts reeling. MacGill returned a tidy 4-95 as Australia dismissed Bangladesh for 304.

Fittingly, the pair combined to end the match with Warne catching a lofted shot from Mohammad Rafique (65) at cover off a delivery from MacGill. Shahadat Hossain was the last remaining batsman on three.

The dismissal ended a defiant innings from Rafique, who belted six sixes and two boundaries to reach 65 off 53 balls. And he received raucous support from the crowd when he smacked three deliveries from Warne for sixes in the spinner's 19th over.

Brett Lee (1-35) was the only other wicket taker for Australia in the second innings, capturing opener Javed Omar (19) lbw just after tea on Wednesday.

Bangladesh began the day with a faint hope of forcing a draw, thanks largely to a defiant stand from Shahriar Nafees.

The opener resumed on 75, but added just four runs to his total before he became Warne's first scalp of the morning, caught behind by Adam Gilchrist.

MacGill had Bangladesh on its knees when he dismissed Aftab Ahmed (18) seven overs later, and in his next he caught Khaled Mashud lbw for 11.

Mashrafe Mortaza (one) and Abdur Razzak (duck) provided little resistance as Rafique tried to salvage a losing cause.

Not surprisingly Jason Gillespie was awarded man-of-the-match honours for his monumental double-century in the first innings, and he was also named man of the series for his efforts that included eight wickets across the two Tests.

Australia and Bangladesh will now play a three-match one-day series, beginning in Chittagong on April 23.
