Blaze defeat Magicians

Liz Perry and Megan Wakefield starred as State Wellington Blaze completed a four-wicket win over State Canterbury Magicians at the Basin Reserve.

Perry posted impressive figures of three wickets for four runs off seven overs to limit Canterbury to 158 for nine from their 50 overs.

Wakefield then struck an undefeated 55 as Wellington chased down their target in 22.2 overs,

Following the previous day’s abandoned match, called off due to rain without any play, the home team won the toss and elected to field first.

Canterbury struggled to 52 for six, before White Ferns Helen Watson and Sarah Burke combined for a seventh-wicket stand of 48 to put their side into three figures.

Selena Charteris then hit an unbeaten 30 to guide her team to through to their eventual total.

The Wellington reply also stuttered, but Wakefield and Amanda Cooper (21 not out) put on an unbeaten 43-run partnership to complete victory.
