Rain has forced the abandonment of the fifth one-day international between India and England in Guwahati.
Not even the rotor blades of a helicopter could dry the pitch and the bowlers' run ups, giving officials no choice but to call the game off without a ball being bowled.
The match was the stadium's first in four years and sections of the 20,000-strong sell-out crowd locals reacted angrily to the news.
"We have to consider the safety of the players and both camps were adamant they were not happy with the run ups and the fielding areas, particularly the slip cordon. That is why it had to be called off," umpire Rudi Koertzen told BBC Sport.
While he sympathised with the crowd, he said there was no alternative.
"People have been sitting here all day waiting for the game to take place. They haven't had any cricket for years so you can understand how they feel," he said.
Game six will be played in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, with India holding an unassailable 4-0 lead in the seven-match series.
