The ICC has dismissed media speculation of match-fixing in the recent triangular series in Zimbabwe as totally inaccurate and without foundation.
ICC Chief Executive Malcolm Speed said that in light of the wildly inaccurate media reports in the Indian media, it was necessary to take this step to address the unfounded speculation.
“We do not normally comment on the operational activities of the ICC Anti-Corruption an
d Security Unit, but in light of the volume of utterly unfounded reports relating to the recent tri-series in Zimbabwe, it is important to make it clear that there is no investigation being undertaken into this series,” said Mr Speed.
Meanwhile, New Zealand Cricket has complete trust that none of its players were involved in corruption.
NZC Chief Executive Martin Snedden said he had not been contacted by the ICC about suggestions from India that unnamed players from at least one of the teams in the tri-series were involved in match fixing.
“All we have seen regarding speculation surrounding the tri-series is reports from Indian newspapers,” he said.
“I have very strong trust in the integrity of our players and am more than confident there is no basis to any suggestions they were involved.”
