Nathan King to Coach Otago Sparks

Otago Cricket has appointed Nathan King to succeed Clare Taylor as Coach of the Otago Sparks.

Nathan is the Development Manager of Otago Cricket and holds a Level 3 coaching qualification.

King is currently completing a stint of coaching with the Hong Kong Cricket Club where one of is roles is coaching the Hong Kong Cricket Club’s Women’s team. King’s achievements as a coach include leading the Otago Under 17 side to it’s first national title and being player coach for the Albion Cricket Club when they won the Otago Southland section of the national club championships and represented this region at the national finals.

The King family has a background in women’s cricket with Paul being a long serving coach for Otago Girls High School and sister Shannon having played for the Sparks.

King said “The opportunity to coach the Otago Sparks is a new but very exciting challenge for me. I look forward to working with some fantastic players but at the same time developing those players just below Sparks level.”

Otago Cricket CEO Ross Dykes said “Otago is fortunate to have a number of highly qualified coaches within its staff and this opportunity for Nathan will extend his coaching experience and broaden his knowledge of cricket within his development portfolio.”

Taylor remains with Otago Cricket in the role of Sponsorship & Hospilatity Manager and she will be available to provide Nathan with a wealth of experienced advice.

On Nathan’s return to NZ the selectors and management structure of the Sparks will be finalized.
