Oram fit for World Cup

BLACKCAPS all-rounder Jacob Oram should be fit to play in the ICC Cricket World Cup.

A specialist confirmed that the finger injury sustained during the first Chappell-Hadlee Series ODI was a fracture, and scans also revealed some tendon damage.

The injury will require a splint and further attention after tournament, but he is expected to be able to play in the Caribbean.

In contrast, Australia have suffered another worrying injury ahead of their defence of the world title.

Opener Matthew Hayden has suffered a fractured big toe on his right foot during the third match of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy in Hamilton.

Hayden suffered the injury during his innings of 181 from 166 balls in Australia's total of 5-346.

Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: "An x-ray of Matthew Hayden's right foot has shown a fracture to his big toe. He will see a specialist in Brisbane tomorrow at which point his medical management will be outlined including his return to play."
