Pakistan posted a massive 636-8 declared to lead England by 348 runs on day four of the third Test at Lahore.
By stumps, England was 121-2 with Ian Bell (60 not out) and Paul Collingwood (37 not out) attempting to led their side to safety but still 227 runs from making Pakistan bat again.
Mohammad Yousuf finished on 223, being caught by Kevin Pietersen from Shaun Udal's bowling, after 602 minutes batting and facing 373 balls. He hit 26 fours and two sixes in his innings. It was his highest Test score.
Kamran Akmal was out soon after for 154 having batted for 326 minutes when he was caught by Michael Vaughan from Andrew Flintoff's bowling. They added 269 runs in their stand, a record for Pakistan in all Tests, easing past the 217 scored by Hanif Mohammad and Majid Khan against New Zealand in 1965.
Inzamam-ul-Haq, having retired hurt on the second day, returned to take his score to 97 from the tiring England attack while Naved-ul-Hasan was 42 not out when the declaration was made.
Inzamam passed 1000 runs for the Test year after only eight Test matches and became the second Pakistan batsman to score 8000 Test runs.
Matthew Hoggard took 2-106 while Steve Harmison, who bowled 43 overs, the most by any of the English bowlers, took 1-154.
Then disaster struck for England when Marcus Trescothick was trapped leg before wicket by Shoaib Akhtar off the second ball of the innings.
Vaughan opened with Trescothick and saw the score through to 30 before he offered a caught and bowled chance which Akhtar accepted when the England captain had scored 13.
Off nine overs at stumps, Akhtar had 2-34.
