Rob Nicol Available for the Wizards

Canterbury Cricket has today confirmed that Auckland Aces player Rob Nicol will be transferring to Canterbury for the 2009-10 summer of cricket.

“I am really looking forward to making a fresh start in a new province this season. Canterbury will provide me with the opportunity for further my game as well as push for New Zealand selection” said Nicol who is currently playing cricket in England.

Nicol is now available for one of the 12 Canterbury Cricket player contracts which are due to be announced later this week.

Canterbury Cricket CEO, Lee Germon, said he was pleased to have someone with Nicol’s level of experience and ability added to the Canterbury ranks.

“Rob is an outstanding player capable of batting in the top order as well as bowling effective off spin and we are very pleased to welcome him to Canterbury”.

Nicol made his debut for Auckland in the 2001-02 season and boasts some impressive statistics scoring over 3000 runs in 102 innings, including seven centuries and 17 fifties. Since his Twenty20 debut in 2006 against Northern Districts Nicol has also had great success taking 12 wickets in 13 matches and batting at an average of 52 runs a game.
