Stephen Fleming and Brendon McCullum completed centuries and the BLACKCAPS attack limited the Rest of South Africa to 132 for four by the end of day three of their tour match in Benoni.
Fleming converted his 96 overnight into three figures before McCullum struck 101 as the tourists made 372 for nine in their first innings, replying to their hosts’ 395 all out.
Fleming made three figures in the morning, despite allowing Peter Fulton a good share of the strike at Willowmoore Park.
The duo extended their third-wicket stand to 183 before Fulton fell for 73, becoming Garnett Kruger’s second wicket of the innings.
The skipper went on to make 118 before going to Monde Zondeki, who also removed Jacob Oram first ball as one of his four wickets.
But, in the absence of the injured Shane Bond, McCullum enjoyed a redoubtable ninth-wicket partnership with his former State Canterbury Wizards colleague Chris Martin.
The duo added 95, the tailender making nine not out, standing up to 86 deliveries in 41 minutes, allowing the keeper to make his tonne, off 145 deliveries in 98 minutes before his removal by Rory Kleinveldt.
James Franklin took his fifth wicket of the match to check the hosts reply, removing Alviro Petersen lbw for five in the sixth over of their second innings.
Oram then trapped fellow opener Stephen Cook lbw for 38, before Justin Ontong made his second half-century of the match, ending the day unbeaten on 59.
However, the South Africans suffered two further blows, inflicted by Daniel Vettori and Chris Martin.
Vettori claimed the wicket of David Jacobs (22) caught and bowled, while McCullum caught first-innings centurion JP Duminy off Martin for nought.
Rest of South Africa XI captain Neil McKenzie is not out alongside Ontong, having made two.
