Vettori moves up in world rankings

Stand-in BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori has moved up one place in the ICC One-Day International Rankings for bowlers.

Vettori moves up to sixth place in the table ahead of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series against Australia.

The Northern Districts spinner replaces the convalescing Stephen Fleming as skipper for the first two Chappell-Hadlee Trophy games.

Australians take the top two positions in both batting and bowling and lead the world team ranking.

Glenn McGrath, who will not face the BLACKCAPS in the three-match series, leads the way.

Team-mate Brett Lee takes second place, while wicket-keeper/batsman Adam Gilchrist and captain Ricky Ponting are first and second in the batting rankings.

The BLACKCAPS are now seventh on the team ladder, with the deadline for the ICC Champions Trophy second stage now on the horizon.

The top six teams on April 1 2006 will automatically progress to the tournament in India later in the year.

The four sides below sixth spot will take part in a preliminary round.

India, currently in fourth place, automatically qualify as hosts.
