Vincent issues rallying call

BLACKCAPS batsman Lou Vincent has rallied supporters to get behind the side when they take on Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series.

The BLACKCAPS return to home soil this week as they kick-start the domestic summer in a three-match campaign against their trans-Tasman rivals.

Vincent said:  “I just hope all the fans come along to see us, show their support and get behind the team.”

He also expressed his delight at being named in a BLACKCAPS squad aiming to inflict a series defeat on the world champions.

He added: “We don’t just take it one series at a time; we take it one game at a time!

“When you’ve been there before, you know not to expect anything.

“It’s just great to be involved after being out of both forms of the team last year. To get back with Auckland and then back in the side, that’s great.

“It’s just good to be back, to have my confidence back and have confidence in my game.”

The Aucklander comes into the series in good form, having picked up man-of-the-match awards during both the Zimbabwe and South Africa tours.

The BLACKCAPS endured contrasting fortunes on those tours, but Vincent did not see much difference in the team’s performances, despite the results.

He admitted: “I think we we’re unlucky in South Africa, one or two things just went against us but I think things can go our way this time.”
