Volts arrive in India for Champions League

The Otago Volts have arrived in India with preparations well under way for the Champions League.

It’s first tournament after last years scheduled event was postponed and captain Craig Cumming is looking forward to the challenge.

“It’s exciting and we’re excited to be here. We are the Otago Volts but represent New Zealand Cricket and are looking forward to representing our country and our province.” Cumming said.

Otago have assembled an experienced squad that included BLACKCAPS Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Ian Butler, Aaron Redmond and Neil Broom.

“We’ve only got four players who haven’t been to the sub-continent before.  All of the others have toured with New Zealand A or the national squad and two have played in the youth cricket world cup,” coach Mike Hesson said.

The team have spent time acclimatising to the heat in Australia where they three warm up matches.

Hesson was pleased saying, “we’ve prepared as well as we can in a New Zealand winter."

One disruption has been due to the success of the BLACKCAPS meaning four Otago players will miss the first warm up match against IPL winners the Deccan Chargers.
