Following a spate of poor umpiring decisions while touring Australia in November, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has filed a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the quality of the Test umpires.
The WICB conceded it was an unusual approach to the situation, however, it said there were too many dubious calls that needed to be reviewed.
The West Indies lost all three Test matches against Australia.
"We have expressed our concerns to the ICC over the standard of decision-making by the umpires in the recently concluded series," said a statement issued by the board.
The ICC has also been asked to complete a video assessment of the umpires' decisions.
While the WICB admitted that the general standard of umpiring had improved since the introduction of the ICC's elite panel of seven specialist umpires, it did feel the recent Australian Tests were well below an acceptable standard.
"The decision-making during the series appeared to be below the normally high standard expected of the elite panel," said the board.
