White Ferns defeated in final

Australia proved their world champion credentials by defeating the White Ferns in the final of the ICC Quadrangular Tournament in Chennai.

The Southern Stars overcame the in-form New Zealanders by six wickets at the Indian city’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Nicola Browne’s 41 was the top score as the Kiwis, batting first after winning the toss, made 177 for nine.

A century stand by Australian openers Melissa Bulow (50) and Shelley Nitschke (81) eased the run chase, with player of the series Lisa Sthalekar finishing the match in the 39th over after a quick-fire 32.
