A swashbuckling innings of 103 off 76 balls from Yuvraj Singh set up a third victory for India over England, by 49 runs, in the latest game of the seven-match series, at Goa.
India batted first on a pitch offering slow, and indifferent bounce, and scored 294-6.
Captain Rahul Dravid played an anchor-like role on the tricky surface while sharing a second-wicket stand of 78 with promoted allrounder Irfan Pathan.
Dravid departed after he dragged a ball from Paul Collingwood onto his stumps and was dismissed for 46.
India suffered a minor hiccup when Pathan got a little too adventurous and was taken at point by Collingwood off Andrew Flintoff's bowling for 36. One run later, India was 131-4 when Mohammad Kaif edged a catch to wicketkeeper Geraint Jones from Liam Plunkett to be out for a duck.
Suresh Raina then joined Yuvraj and set about a 142-run fifth-wicket stand that effectively stole the initiative from England.
Yuvraj posted his half-century off 48 balls, and then in the 45th over, the pair took to Sajid Mahmood hitting two sixes, two fours and two singles to lift India to 248-4.
Then, in the next over, Yuvraj took 11 runs from Plunkett's bowling to go to 98 and he brought up his century in the 47th over with an elegant drive into the covers for a single.
Flintoff finally removed him for his 103 in the 48th over and Raina followed in the last over for 61. Mahendra Dhoni added the finishing touches with 13 not out. Flintoff was the most successful of the bowlers taking 3-56.
England's batsmen struggled to come to grips with the slower pace of the pitch, and when Pathan utilised his slower delivery to leave England reeling at 47-3, the issue was all the tougher for the tourists.
When Flintoff was out for 15, caught by the leg-side sweeper, England was 83-5 and its hopes rested with Paul Collingwood. He and Jones added 105 for the seventh wicket but the requirement proved too high and Collingwood fell to Harbhajan Singh's bowling for 93 scored from 84 balls.
Plunkett hit out for 18, but England was all out with seven balls remaining for 245.
Pathan took 4-51, Ajit Agarkar 2-34 and Harbhajan 2-47.
